Shaft Coupling

AboutShaft Coupling

A rigid shaft coupling is the safe and backless free connection that connects the drive shaft and drive shaft into order to transmit torque. The external clamping systems generate a backlash-free connection by pressing the connecting sleeve onto the shaft ends.

Working Principle

Connect hub solidly to shafts, using a keyless mechanical interference fit, to transmit torque or to withstand axial thrust. This mechanical interference fit is based on wedge base friction theory.
By tightening screws clamp force is generated and due to taper geometry, the clamp force transmits force to other member in radial direction which induced contact pressure to the hub.
This pressure expands the Shaft Locking Device to eliminate the gap between the hub and the shaft. The Shaft Locking Device generates friction bonding between the Shaft Locking Device and the shaft/hub to create a zero backlash connection.
Due to Interference between two bonded parts at shaft and hub the torque can be transmitted from shaft to the hub through Shaft hub assembly.
Shaft Hub Connection is easily releasable to remove the mechanical interference fit.
Shaft Locking Devices expand to fill the gap between the shaft and hub, allowing for easy installation and removal, saving time over traditional interference fit techniques. The contact pressures created using a Shaft Locking Device are greater than traditional interference fit pressures, allowing for more torque to be transmitted or shorter hubs to be used. The easy installation also allows the hub to be positioned more accurately on the shaft, and can facilitate angular timing of the hub.

Shaft Hub Connection

Elimination of keyway so it will reduce machining cost.
Due to zero backlash, it will reduces shaft stress & Completely tight fit around shaft
Impervious to reversing, dynamic or shock loads Capacity
No extra hub length required.
No concentration of torsional stress.
No such type of machining required because of elimination of keyway.
Shaft and hub tolerances are sufficient for easy mounting and correct positioning
High pressures let high torque to be transmitted, also in addition with bending moment, fretting corrosion is eliminated.
Absence of notches results in enhanced static and dynamical strength, leading to lighter and more cost-effective designs and easy axial and angular adjustments and timing.
High manufacturing precision permits close geometrical tolerances, leading to a well-balanced coupling, also for high speed conditions.
The large variety and the possibility of designing and manufacturing customized units let to and the best solution for any kind of specifications.
