Centrifugal Lift-off Sprags (CLS)

Design as Centrifugal Lift-off Sprags (CLS) Type Freewheel Clutch

Centrifugal Lift-off Sprags (CLS) Type Freewheel Clutches are specially design with self and positive locking form of CLS cam/sprags are retain with the help of Torsional springs. Inner race is kept attached with the shaft by key but here the outer race is made fixed with some structure on the machine element for hold backing purpose.

Cam/sprag configuration is such that its center of gravity is offset to its rotational axis. CLS Cam are supported in cage which is connected to Inner ring. Now, when Inner ring rotates, The Centrifugal force is applied at the C.G. of Sprag. When this centrifugal force overcomes the spring force, gap will be generated & freewheeling operation done without contact. The result is a greatly increased service life compared to conventional types. This type of clutches are used where speed of shaft (RPM) is higher.

Integrated Freewheel one-way clutches

  • Without bearing support.
  • Integrating the outer ring on the customer part by bolting to the face
  • Lubrication – if necessary – to be provided by the customer
  • Concentric alignment of inner and outer race must be provided by the customer.

Complete Freewheel one-way clutches

  • With bearing support between inner and outer race
  • Completely enclosed Type
  • With own lubrication & without own lubrication
  • Connection to the outer race and the customer part by:
    • bolting to the face
    • mounting flange,
    • keyway connection on the outer race
    • lever

External Backstops/Holdbacks

  • These clutches are available with and without bearing support.
  • Completely enclosed
  • With own lubrication

Internal Freewheel one-way clutches

  • Internal Freewheel one-way clutches are available with and without bearing support. In the case of series without bearing support, concentric alignment of the inner and outer race must be provided by the customer.
  • Installing the outer race in the customer´s housing with press fit or keyway connection. This makes compact, space-saving solutions possible.
  • Lubrication – if necessary – to be provided by the customer

Centrifugal Lift-off Sprags

Most suitable as backstops, and mostly the contact-free versions.

  • High overrunning speed
  • High torque capacity
  • High eccentricity tolerances
  • Maintenance Free
