Holdback Device

About

NMTG Holdback Device clutch is designed to transmit torque in one direction and overrunning (Freewheeling) in opposite direction. As the contacts between wedging elements (Roller, Sprag, CLS Cam, NDC Sprag, etc.) with inner race & outer race, these generate clamping forces. NMTG all Holdback Device clutch designs utilize the same principles of operation.

Holdback function prevent reverse rotation when input drive discontinued or power supply failure to input drive. Holdback clutch used to prevent damage caused by power supply failure.

Here are some characteristics and common applications of holdback devices:

  • 1. Prevent Unintended Movement: Holdback devices are designed to prevent unintended motion or action, acting as a barrier or restraint until specific conditions are met or intentional action is taken.
  • 2. The Holdback prevents reverse rotation in a drive of a conveyor installation if the power fails or the motor is turned off.
  • 3. The Holdback prevents reverse rotation of the conveyor load if the power fails or the motor is turned off.

Benefits of Holdback Device

Accommodate high radial loads:
  • Max. Load & Greater Torque Capacity
  • Long life performance
  • High precision (No Backlash), Silent Operation
