About Clamping Sleeves

Introduction

NMTG Clamping Sleeve is designed to overcome disadvantages of keyed connection or Shrink fit connection. Clamping Sleeves eliminate need of expensive machining operations such as shaft-hub keyways, splines & bolt holes by creating instant Shrink-fit connection & returns to their original condition for easy disassembly when unclamped.

The need of Reliability, Dynamic Stress level is increasing. So, NMTG Clamping Sleeve is high quality shaft-hub connection which satisfies modern Engineering Demands.

Function:

NMTG Clamping Sleeves are Cylindrical Symmetric components with a Predetermined Internal & External Grooves. Now, when these Clamping Sleeves will get axially compressed by Clamping Force, Radial Force will generate which create high concentric shrink-fit connection between Shaft, Clamping sleeves & Hub. This Shrink-fit connection will provide backlash free Torque Transmission. When Clamping force removed or relaxed, Clamping Sleeve will retain its original position for easy removal.

Drawbacks of Key

Though apparently seems simple but preparing keyway is one of the difficult machining operations:

  • Increase in cost due to various operation involved – setting & down time + machining time
  • Lateral shifting of Keyways: in process it is extremely difficult to set the centre line of the keyway exactly symmetrical and parallel with respect to the radial plane
  • Heavy torsional stresses are concentrated at the corner of the keyway so shaft is weakened
  • Torque transmission capacity is limited and due to machining process, fretting corrosion take place.
  • Design and manufacturing is limited because of dimension constraint.
  • Deviation in keyway width
  • Not parallel to the axis

The cumulative effect of the all above (operational) errors, is really calls for an alternative system-keyless Transmission.
